President Trump took to twitter Thursday morning to criticize a visit to Israel by Congressional Representatives Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.). “They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds” the President claimed. “It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit.”
Within an hour, the two Congresswomen were barred from visiting. Israel’s deputy foreign minister announced on state radio, “We won’t allow those who deny our right to exist in this world to enter Israel”.
Prime Minister Netenyahu defended the decision, stating “Israel’s law prohibits the entry of people who call and operate to boycott Israel, as is the case with other democracies that prevent the entry of people whose perception harms the country,” as reported by The Jerusalem Post.
President Trump again commented on the reps, stating, “they HATE Israel!”
Many notable Democrats have come to the defense of reps; New York Senator Chuck Schumer rebutted the banning, saying “denying entry to members of the United States Congress is a sign of weakness, not strength.
