‘This Government ends here’ – The Prime Minister of Italy, Giusseppe Conte has announced his resignation after accusing his appointed Interior Minister, Matteo Salvini, of “sinking the ruling coalition”.

Salvini, who has been a firm opponent of the recent influx of mass immigration, has demanded early elections. The ‘Prima Gli Italiani’ Italians First Interior Minister is confident that his high-steam popularity will lift him into power as the New Prime Minister.

Matteo Salvini’s vehement push for early elections last Thursday was an attempt to bring down the current government. Getting his way, it is likely Italy’s President Mattarella, must decide how the country moves forward and whether new elections will be held or not. Some are worried a snap election could result in a danger to the economy.
