Six Philadelphia Police Officers were injured on Wednesday after an 8-hour gun fight after responding to a call reporting narcotics activity. During a Press conference, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney blasted the NRA, calling for stronger gun restriction. “It’s aggravating, it’s saddening, and it’s something that we need to do something about and if the state and local governments don’t want to stand up to the NRA and some other folks, then let us Police ourselves”. The mayor continued, “Our officers deserve to be protected and they don’t deserve to be shot at by a guy for hours with an unlimited supply of weapons and an unlimited amount of bullets.”

The suspect, Maurice Hill, now in Police custody, has a long criminal record, including felonies that would prohibit gun ownership. Hill has an extensive rap sheet, including six convictions on charges of illegal possession of guns, dealing drugs, as well as aggravated assault. The suspect has been arrested around a dozen times.

In 2008, after being caught with unlawful possession of a Smith & Wesson .357 revolver and a Taurus PT .45 semi-automatic, Hill pleaded guilty to federal gun charges.
