If you’re as much of a Scarface movie buff as I am, you would have a slight inkling about Tony Montana’s stance on Castro, Communism (and the f*ckin’ Diaz brothers). Scarface classically begins by broadcasting the thousands of Cuban refugees who fled to America to escape Communist rule under Dictator Fidel Castro.
After Cuba began to align itself with Soviet Russia and communism in 1959, hundreds of thousands of Cubans fled to the U.S to start a new life in the “Yankee Paradise”. The Cuban exiles made it through 90 miles of shark-infested water between Cuba and Florida. With the desire for freedom, Cubans set sail in whatever was possible; Flimsy fishing boats, resourcefully crafted cars, and handmade rafts.
It is no surprise to see the reaction that Cuban Americans had on the day that Fidel Castro died. They paraded through the streets of Florida in celebration, many even flaunting ‘Trump’ signs. Many of them were even ‘hurt and ashamed’ by President Obama’s praise for Fidel Castro.
More than half of Cuban Americans voted for President-elect Donald Trump in the 2016 U.S Presidential election and it wouldn’t be far fetched to believe that a character such a Tony Montana who hated Communist rule, would be a Trump supporter, too (if TM existed).
Fidel Castro is dead!
