Con Edison officials identify cause of New York City July 13 Blackout

Con Edison officials have issued a statement citing the reason for the July 13 blackout that left more than 60,000 people in Manhattan without power. After investigation, the electric company concluded in the statement, “We identified a flawed connection between some of the sensors and protective relays at the substation. We have corrected that condition.” The explanation strays far from Con Ed’s original belief that the blackout was caused by a transformer fire at 54th Street and West End Avenue.
