Councilman Joe Borelli (R), who represents the South Shore of Staten Island, fired back at Mayor Bill DeBlasio in a public twitter dispute. Deblasio accused Borelli of being a “liar” after the Councilman took to twitter to criticize ThriveNYC for pulling out of a Blue Lives Matter co-sponsored mental health event for first responders. He tweeted below:
Freddie Goldstein, the Press Secretary for the Mayor replied with the following tweet below:
The Mayor, at a press conference, claimed Borelli had his phone number, implying the Councilman could have called him to rectify the situation immediately. In response, Borelli fired back with an email screenshot where the Mayor’s office admits they may have “mishandled” the decision to pull-out of the ThriveNYC event.

The Mayor has since penned a letter to the NYPD proclaiming his support for them after the latest suicide by a New York City Police Officer. This is the 9th incident in the recent string of suicides by NYPD Officers. This isn’t the first and, we predict, won’t be the last the Mayor gets grilled for his actions by Borelli or others who are willing to take him on.
