Universities across the U.S cancel Milo Yiannopoulos events to censor free speech

All over the U.S, we have continuously witnessed conservative ideas become censored and banned. This is true and happening from the mainstream media, which is somewhat expected. Even social media sites are having a great time picking and choosing who can have influence, pretending the users are like characters in the game THE SIMS and they are God. Through “shadow banning”, removing popular right-wing hashtags, and even kicking people off the site (Milo Yiannopoulos), they lay down their fist of power to shut alternative ideas down.

It seems these days, Milo has triggered more than just the hierarchy of social media. In his infamous (provaca)tour, “The Dangerous Faggot” has spoken to students at Universities all over the United States. But just as quickly as they are posted up are as quickly as the staff of these schools come up with an excuse to cancel them.

An event scheduled for November 17th at New York University was cancelled with the following email :

Our security review of the event that your organization has scheduled in NYU facilities featuring Milo Yiannopoulous has raised concerns for us about the safety and well-being of our community. On other campuses, his events have been accompanied by physical altercations, the need for a drastically enlarged security presence, harassment of community members both at the event and beyond, and credible threats involving the presence of firearms or explosives.

The physical set-up of NYU is such that our buildings are all multi-use and any space that would be used for this sort of event would invariably be near to a constant flow of students who could be drawn into the event involuntarily as well as other student organizations that are the subjects of Mr. Yiannopoulous’ attacks. For example, the proposed venue in this case is proximate to the Islamic Center, the LGBTQ Student Center and the Center for Multicultural Education and Programs.

Across the country at other universities, these considerations and developments have led to cancellations or the early ending of Mr. Yiannopoulous’ appearances. Given all the foregoing – and particularly the perils to safety of our community and the orderly pursuit of University life — we cannot allow the use of University facilities for this event.

This is not an isolated incident. Maryland University also jumped on an opportunity to cancel by stating the following :

We at Terps for Trump regret to inform that we have run into some bumps regarding funding for this event.

Due to incidents bomb threats made at other schools that Milo had agreed to perform at and the general tensions with unruly students, the security team has increased our rate for their coverage to around 2000 dollars as they need extra officers/K9 units along with the forced change to a more expensive, venue (i.e Richie Coliseum) bringing the total cost of the event to 6500 dollars.

We all love and appreciate Milo’s work and wholeheartedly want him to give his talk at our University, however we simply cannot afford to pay for this more or less enormous last minute bill by ourselves. At the end of the day, we’re simply a group of college students with a limited pool of income. If we are to make the event happen by ourselves, we would have to take out a large loan that would be extremely strenuous to pay back, adding to the financial burden of our members. After much deliberation with the rest of the group, we’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not in the best interests of our group to do that.

In a response to these blatantly obvious tactics, Milo took to facebook and issued a statement.

    Milo rips universities

Hopefully, there can be a resolve, as these Universities are clearly breaking the law according to a 1992 Supreme Court ruling Forsyth County v. Nationalist Movement. It seems these type of poisonous tactics will only continue and possibly worsen if Hillary Clinton wins the Presidency.
