The world lost a hero on Saturday – Former New York City police detective and U.S Marine , Luis Alvarez, who fought for the 9/11 Victim Compensation fund, passed away at age 53.
Following 9/11, Alvarez spent weeks sifting through Ground Zero for victims. In 2016, he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, becoming one of more than 50,000 people whose developed illness linked to being exposed to toxins that emanated after the towers collapsed.
